Our goal is to provide learners with a space where they can strive intellectually,
physically and emotionally; be open and feel happy.

Dual-Way Immersion

Alternating on a weekly base, Czech and German are taught in morning and afternoon blocks, while one
teacher is assigned to each language block. Therefore, language becomes a tool for conveying a range of subjects and ideas rather than just linguistic information. Core subjects, that is, language,
mathematics and sciences, are taught in both languages, allowing coverage of the curricula in preparation of middle/high school in both the Czech Republic and Germany (Gymnasium). Other subjects are distributed equally between languages according to the language and subject expertise of teachers.

Immersion is designed to offer learners of an additional language longer periods in a “minority” language
so they have the chance to actively engage with it. By doing so, learners can experiment, practice, play,
and consolidate their linguistic skills in a variety of ways and communicative situations. Children with
only a basic knowledge of German or Czech particularly benefit from this.

Focus

Our first focus is literacy and bilteracy as well as life around our reading corner. Language proficiency and literacy have been found to be closely related in several studies. Literacy fosters creativity, sparks
curiosity, and stimulates children’s imaginations. Reading provides children with models for verbalizing
their own thoughts, which are often abstract. Reading tasks that provide opportunities for critical
reflection and debate, such as book presentations or author conferences, prepare children to become
confident, independent, and self-assured members of their communities.

The second focus is on expressive arts. We consider sports, dance, music, media arts and drama as
categories of expressive art. “Works of art” can surprise their viewers and evoke
personal responses. The arts can have significant power to move people to action, which is why our
school pays special attention to them. For this reason, we regularly invite our students to see, hear, and
read in novel ways through a variety of artworks and media. We believe this is fundamental to
making connections and seeing things from a different perspective.

The third focus is mathematics. We want to teach mathematics as a medium for thinking, solving
problems, and understanding connections. In this regard, we work with materials such as Sinus Transfer,
Mathe Forscher as well as materials that use the Shanghai and Singapore math methods. In the spirit of dialogic learning, these materials promote learning by doing and encourage children
to apply concepts in an authentic and meaningful manner through a dialogue with the self and the other.

Our vision is to create naturally bilingual learning environments in which action and experimenting are atthe forefront of learning.
